About Carol

I learned to watch time pass through flowers.

Carol with a yellow flower tucked behind her ear

When I was little, my grandparents would take me to a meadow full of orange cosmos flowers. We’d cut some and put them in water on the table, and they’d wilt almost while you watched. They were so delicate. That was the first time I wanted to keep a flower.

I grew up without much, and flowers were my refuge: proof that something beautiful was always nearby. Years later I taught myself to preserve them, first pressing, then encapsulating whole flowers in three dimensions, in their natural shape and color. What used to wilt on the table can now live on someone’s ears for years.

Corola is my studio in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur. Every piece is made by hand, with a patience you can see. I don’t think of them as jewelry exactly, they’re small portals that bring you to the moment the flower comes from.

Why Corola?

In biology, the corola is the ring of petals that gives a flower its shape, its color, its life. I chose the name for what it means — and for the coincidence of how close it sits to my own.

Flowers are gathered and grown with respect; the dream is a garden of our own that gives more to nature than it takes.
